Congratulations to GCNYC graduate- Meg Fisher

Congratulations to GCNYC graduate Meg Fisher for the successful completion of her thesis, “The Role of Biosynthetic Innovation in Replacing Petroleum-Derived Synthetic Materials in the Fashion Industry.”

Meg’s study explores the potential of biosynthetics to replace petroleum-derived materials and promote a more sustainable future for the industry. By identifying the limitations of implementing this innovation, her research addresses obstacles preventing the industry from utilising the ecological advantages of biosynthetics. Technical data comparisons and in-depth interviews with industry experts revealed performance, behavioural, and infrastructure constraints that hinder the adoption of this sustainable solution. While biosynthetics show significant potential for replacing petroleum-derived textiles, the study concludes that behavioural issues and inadequate infrastructure are the primary obstacles preventing widespread adoption.
